Strolling down the Avenue
The applet below displays the monuments in the vicinity of Stonehenge.
A moving point, coloured cyan, follows the course of the Avenue. At
each point on the Avenue the visible monuments are highlighted in red.
When you point at a monument its details are displayed below the map.
Clicking anywhere on the map brings up a control panel.
It may take a while for all of the data and images to be downloaded.
Features of the applet are enabled when the necessary data arrives, so
everything may not work to begin with.
The following controls are available:
- Background
- Select the background for the display. The available options are:
- No background: a plain white background.
- Contours: contours representing height above sea level.
- Topography: the height data presented using different coloured shading.
- Delay
- The time in milliseconds between moves of the point. This value can
be set between 10 (fast) and 300 (slow). (And 10000: very, very slow.)
- Check boxes
- There is a set of five check boxes which allow you to turn on or off the
display of different types of monument.
- Cancel
- The cancel button dismisses the control panel.
